Curry Leaf Growth

In the winter months, curry leaf plants are prone to losing their leaves if they are not kept in direct sunlight. Even so, we recommend continuing to water the plant every 10 days or so as it will come back better than ever once you put it outside this spring!

We keep curry leaf plants inside the house during cold months near a large window that gets sunlight most days. This has helped it stay green and allow its growth to develop. I spray the plants with natural pesticides made from neem oil to guard against bugs while indoors and they seem to like the cosy space!

A curry leaf tree doesn’t need much space at first, but after 4-5 years it will be tall and wide. When the plant gets older, you’ll need to find a spot that is long enough for both the plant’s height and its width. But where? Do you have space in your house or apartment? Can your pets harm it while inside the house or apartment?

Does a curry leave plant take long to grow?

It takes a couple of months for the plant to be ready to harvest.

After planting your curry leaf plant, it will take about two or three months before you can start harvesting leaves from it. You’ll know when enough time has passed because the stem and branches should have hardened up – this means that they are strong enough to withstand tearing off some fresh leaves.

When we first got our curry leaf tree, we were nervous that it wouldn’t grow at all but after almost 12 weeks, there were already small shoots coming out on one side of the branch.

Now around 16-18 weeks later, there’s so much growth with lots more new buds popping up every day! To get a curry tree to full size, it can sometimes take up to 5 years, so you will need to be patient.
